review

My daughter had been suffering from eyelid eczema for weeks. She is 17 years old and hasn't had an eczema flare since she was about 10 years old. We went to a doctor and to a dermatologist, and they both just readily prescribed steroid-based creams. After reading the horrible side effects, especially when applied on the eyelid, we definitely sought to find a better solution. We tried aquaphor, Vaseline, pure Argan oil (really expensive!), chinese herbal capsules, unrefined shea butter, organic extra virgin coconut oil----nothing worked! Then we found our perfect combination. I knew that her eczema flare was related to her having seasonal allergies, so she started taking Allegra 180 mg. daily and using Aveeno Eczema Therapy moisturizing cream. I read the reviews for this cream and was really impressed. We were so desperate for a healthy solution, that I decided to give it a try. I am sooooo happy that I did. Within 24 hours, I knew that we had stumbled across a winner! Boy, oh boy, what a major difference in her skin. Can you imagine the turmoil in being a 17 year old high school senior with eyelid eczema? She had swollen, red, itchy, crusty, stretched and wrinkled eyelids with undereye dark circles. Not a pretty sight. Within 24 hours-- her red, swollen, wrinkled eyelids returned to normal. She applies the moisturizing cream about 4 times a day and sleeps with a cool mist humidifier at night to keep the air moist. I sure hope this helps someone.

review

I have tried and tried over the years to find a bar soap that won't cause me splotches and doesn't have a fragrance that bothers my chemical sensitivities. This is the one!!!! I am so excited that I found this. Usually the fragrance free bars either have some strong smell (to me) or they aren't worth a flip. This one has a very very light nice scent...it's almost imperceptible, actually it probably is to others who don't have nose that smells and is allergic to everything! Had I known it had even a hint of a scent, I wouldn't have bought it because I would have thought that it would break me out. So don't let it deter you. Not even a hint of redness after I bathe. This soap is fabulous and I highly recommend it!!!

UPDATE: 3 1/2 years later and this is still the only soap bar I use! It's wonderful and I don't get nearly as many rashes as I used to. I just can't say enough how grateful I am I found this soap. BTW...One thing I didn't say before is that it lathers much better than a lot of other "natural" or "sensitive" soap bars.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

I've been a fan of Dove products since I was about 15 years old. Fast forward ten years to present day and my love for this man-friendly body & face wash keeps growing! I live in Northeast Florida where the Spring's and Summer's are famously hot, and the Winter's are remarkably freezing. The ever-fluctuating temperatures mean that my shower has seen it's fair share of line-up changes in its days as far as body washes are concerned. The only thing that's kept reign among everything else is Dove, and thanks to the newest products for Dove Men+Care I've retained my masculinity on the bathroom shelf.

Good ol' micromoisture keeps my skin nice and healthy without sacrifice, in that my skin retains moisture for the days that it needs to but this body wash scrubs dirty days away with ease. Smell wise, Aqua Impact is clean and sporty. It's difficult to accurately describe the scent because everyone perceives them differently. So I'll just say that it's sweet smelling like some nicer Old Spice or ADIDAS body washes I've used but still very clean like you would expect from Dove Men+Care. The scent isn't overpowering so it won't linger around after you're nice and clean.

I really like the texture of Aqua Impact as well. The ocean minerals scrub up like the 'Deep Clean' body wash and revitalizes like the 'Extra Fresh' as if it takes the best from those two and combines them. Of course it rinses clean no problem so you can get in and out without worry. Also as a small side-note, rub a small amount of this stuff behind your ears or under your armpit's to quickly wash away any dirt and grime that you accumulate while doing activities or working out.

Overall I think Dove nailed this one on the head for the Men+Care products. A combination of 'Deep Clean' and 'Extra Fresh' is what you get from this while being uniquely scented. It's still got the Micromoisture for guys such as myself, that are too lazy to worry about skin care and still rinse your nastiest days away no problem. You won't regret adding Aqua Impact to your clean regime.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

If you have dry skin, give this a try. A doctor recommended I try this when I complained of itchy skin due to dryness. It's definitely more moisturizing than the bar soaps I used to use.

As someone already mentioned, the packaging design is horrible. I used to keep almost empty bottles propped upside-down in my shower caddy, but then decided to use a pump bottle instead, which I refill.

Dove -

If you're reading this, please redesign these bottles so that they are more user-friendly. In Japan, you sell liquid Dove soap in pump bottles, and you even sell refills packaged in plastic bag, which are far more eco-friendly and less expensive. Please consider doing the same for the North American market.

This gallery set is amazing. Not only is the frame quality amazing, with real glass (compared to many others that are actually plexi glass), but it comes with amazing templates to help you figure out how to put up your frames. I've had one too many experiences where I position my frame, only to find that my markings were off and that I ended up drilling/nailing in the wrong spot. I basically used the templates to map out how I would like my frames positioned on the wall, used a level to make sure that everything was leveled, and then just used the template "drill here" instructions to find the exact spot to put the screws into the wall. Viola! Perfect gallery!

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

This is a very nice little all-in-one shaver and trimmer. I also use it to cut my hair. That's the good news. I like it so much I've owned 3 in the last 18 months. That's the bad news. The first one stopped taking a charge after about 6 weeks. The second one stopped taking a charge after about 9 months. So, it works well, the blades stay relatively sharp and it is inexpensive, but, you will likely not get a year out of it.

It's great, but I've dropped a star only due to price/usage ratio.

You don't really get an excess amount of uses with 1 bar, so for me old spice better in terms of that.

But the feeling you after using this is pretty refreshing, love taking a shower with this after some heavy lifting and intense cardio at the gym!

Would I buy this again? It's a maybe, if there's a sale on these, sure.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

I bought this when my local store ran out of the Dove Men + Care Body and Face Bar, Deep Clean, 4 Ounce, 8 Count

I was a little hesitant at first because this one seemed to have more of a scent on the outside of the box. Naturally men don't want soaps that smell like perfume or have a scent that last for hours. This soap definitely lives up to the Dove for Men brand.

The scent is definitely there, it's hard to say what exactly it smells like though. The scent is more noticeable in the shower when you're using it, but once you rinse off it's hardly there or noticeable but it does leave enough so you smell fresh.

This one definitely lathers better than the Deep Clean version probably because it lacks those scrubbing beads.

The only downside of this soap that I've noticed is that it doesn't leave the same silky smooth feeling that the other Dove soaps leave, including the Deep Clean version. I don't know if this is just an issue with the bar/batch that I'm using or if it's a normal characteristic of this particular product, either way, I'm willing to keep using it to see if it changes plus, it's not a deal breaker for me.

EDIT: I also learned that this soap does not leave blue melted marks. If the bar melts a little bit in the soap holder, the "mush/melted" stuff is white.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

Our baby daughter started suffering from either dermatitis or eczema a year ago - just a red bumpy rash - and unscented Dove was recommended by the pediatrician, pediatric dermatologist, and allergist. Unfortunately, they didn't know the manufacturer had changed the product formula. We really wish they had - it would have saved her a year of terrible itching its new formula caused.

A change in formula to Alimentum resulted in dramatic improvement after a milk allergy was diagnosed. However, small raised red patches and intense itching that caused frantic scratching to the point of bleeding soon became major issues; we visited a second dermatologist - atypical eczema was diagnosed.

Treatment until just a few days ago had been warm daily baths and unscented Dove, along with hydrocortisone 1% on spots and Cetaphil cream all over. Children's Zyrtec did not seem to alleviate the itching, although it did help her sleep. A prescription for Calcitrene did not help either. Only a physical barrier - footed PJs with both zippers and snaps, kept her from picking at her skin constantly.

Quite by accident I used unscented Dove two weeks ago. I suddenly found myself having intense itching as well. Could it be that my daughter was allergic to Dove? It did make sense as Dove was used directly on her exposed areas, arms and torso, and she had her most intense and frantic itching episodes after her bath. We discontinued Dove immediately and her intense itching subsided overnight.

What I didn't understand was why I was suddenly was allergic to the new bars. After doing some research it turns out that Dove has discontinued the old Dove unscented bar along with the Dove for sensitive skin (the one with sweet almond oil - itself an allergen) and combined them into one bar, Dove Unscented for Sensitive Skin. In so doing, it's changed its main surfuctant and other ingredients - in other words, the Dove doctors have been recommending for years is no longer the same product.

An online search revealed complaints about itchiness and the new Dove. One website site in particular on the treatment of eczema has an enormous amount of information on detergents, soap and their effects on eczema - especially the change in Dove soap. It no longer recommends it for eczema. Please see the comments section for more information.

Interestingly, itchiness and redness with the new formulation was brought up by a customer in Dove's own website and no solution is given other than Customer Service's phone number.

I've also found some mentions of another Dove ingredient, "Sodium tallowate" - tallow, sometimes derived from cattle - as sometimes causing a reaction in people with milk allergies, causing flare ups in acne and eczema. Whether this too caused an allergic reaction in our daughter, I don't know.

We thought our case was isolated. However, it's possible that the skin problems related to the new Dove may be more widespread. I hope this information helps as this change was done quietly by the manufacturer.

We also found sweet almond oil in the Cetaphil cream she was prescribed - an allergen for anyone with a tree nut allergy. We stopped using it later and the remaining red raised patches she had also diappeared. Other changes that were recommended including a change to Tide Free - it didn't help my daughter but it healed my red, cracked hands, the result of doing laundry 2-3x a day with All Free.

Granted, individual reactions to products vary but the new ingredients in Dove may be causing allergies rather than helping them. None of the three doctors consulted knew of the formula change in Dove nor realized that the "Dove + cetaphil" combo they were recommending were causing the very symptoms (itching and rash) they were trying to treat. It's possible parents may just assume it's ongoing eczema, just like they did. It may not be.

** Update 4/13 **

As noted in my review above the allergen that caused my daughter's eczema was detergent - in this case, the surfuctants in Dove. We then found out that exposure to other sulfates, such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (the main ingredient in Johnson's Baby Bath Head to Toe Baby Wash) are huge triggers for eczema in general - not just my child (why don't doctors know this?!). They may also contribute to scalp eczema - important to know as most shampoos contain SLS.

The solution is simple - avoid anything with detergents and/ or sulfates and switch mostly to soap-based products. These are way milder than what we've been led to believe by advertising. Please see comments section for alternatives to Dove and baby washes with SLS.

** Update 10/14 **

New types of treatment are available for eczema nowadays that have nothing to do with the traditional Dove & Cetaphil Combo, and are one step up from regular hydrocortizone 1% + moisturizer.

My daughter, who still had mild dermatitis / eczema was recently prescribed "Locoid" (4 oz, hydrocortisone butyrate 0.1% by prescription only) which is applied twice a day; for bathtime a gentle no-sulfate soap is used (such as Luxo Creme soap) with warm water. For her hair and scalp, Ciclopirox shampoo 1%, every other day along with Neutrogena T/Sal Shampoo, Scalp Build-up Control, 4.5 fl oz in the days in between, left on for 5 minutes before rinsing well. Her skin cleared up COMPLETELY in a matter of days. Please note Locoid works by blocking the production of inflammatory chemicals prevents the swelling and redness, and preventing the itching and rash formation that can happen as a result of inflammation of skin conditions such as eczema. It should only be used under the care of a doctor and is not recommended for long-term use, especially in children.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

Where has this been all my life? I now spend upwards of 67 minutes in the shower, staring at myself. It has made me late for work on numerous occasions. Ironically this mirror has actually been influential in making me shave less because now I am able to stare at my gorgeous beard in the comfort of my own naked time.

Pros:

- Nano-technology, fogless feature: I have no idea how this technology works, but they must hide the computer very well. Somehow it prevents it from fogging. It may even be enchanted.

- Easy installation: Tying my sneakers was more traumatizing than installing this mirror. This of course is no longer an issue since I now wear shoes with velcro fasteners.

- Mounts: Comes with a handy, secondary metal mount for my razor. I have not installed it quite yet, but I can think of at least 11 different things to hang in my shower, including my tooth brush, a golf pencil, nunchucks, or a handy straw.

- It hangs in such a way that when I walk into my bathroom, I can actually see it hanging in the shower. It's a very mystical experience... from 10 feet away, the image is somewhat distorted, but the closer I get the more detail it shows. I feel almost as if I am called in by the sirens of my own vanity to see my reflection slowly clear-up until I snap out of it, looking around to see myself standing in the shower, fully clothed. Sometimes I still have the car keys in my hand from walking in the door 2 hours prior.

Cons:

- The seller (Cassani) keeps emailing me tips, tricks, and FAQs with subjects like "IMPORTANT: How To Protect & Use Your Fogless Shower Mirror." Evidently mirrors that hang in showers are extremely complicated endeavors and have driven many men to insanity without proper guidance. I appreciate their frequent emails that remind me how to use this advanced technology.

- When I asked it, "Who is the fairest of them all?" it just kind of sits there.

Overall: A good body wash that gets the job done, but this is nothing like the Irish Spring I grew up with. If you're having flashbacks to the Irish Spring commercials where they whistle while showering and you remember that fresh, unique smell, this is nothing like it. I loved the original Irish Spring, it had a very unique scent that everyone liked. This body wash isn't my first choice, but I also wouldn't throw it out.

Pros:

It has a strong scent. If you like to smell like soap after a shower, this is a good one for you. Not everyone wants to smell like soap so if you prefer a very subtle scent, this may be too strong.

It isn't the "sport" scent that many body washes are, but it's also not bad. It's very similar to a typical soap smell you would expect, except stronger.

It lasts - you can smell it on yourself throughout the day.

Cons:

It's very thick. Most body washes will come out slightly runny, but this is closer to honey in terms of viscosity. As a result, it takes a little more water to rinse off.

As I mentioned before, it smells nothing like the original Irish Spring, which is why I bought it in the first place.

Overall, I use it and like it, but I prefer the sport scents that are more citrus-like.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

I wanted to try out this product for the "skin/hair care" side of it, though this product is "pure" enough that a little in my soup or skillet creates a nice nutty aroma and mild taste - really good in this coconut curry soup I eat.

That said, I brought the jar into my bathroom to keep it there instead of for cooking (I'll purchase another one for the kitchen). The one negative I have with this product for skin is that it's so thick and hard, I really have to dig in there to get a bit; however, once it's in the palm of my hand, the warmth of my skin melts it quite quickly. It can feel a little heavy and greasy at first, and the scent of coconut makes me think of cooking and not "beauty product;" but I mixed it with a little of my regular hand/body lotion and that was the ticket - it smoothed on my skin quite nicely and created a kind of "sheen" like those starlets have on their skin as they walk the red carpet with an insipid grin. Mixing it toned down the coconut scent, too.

I did smooth it on my face, straight, and it did absorb quickly, and the scent of coconuts wasn't so strong after a few minutes. I have slightly sensitive skin with a little rosacea and the product didn't break me out or irritate my skin.

But! The best "beauty" use I had from this product that SOLD me, is what it did to my hair! One morning I smoothed the coconut oil on my hair, paying particular attention to the ends. I threw my hair up in a ponytail and left the coconut oil in for at least an hour and a half. I rinsed it out with very warm water and then I shampooed twice. When I stepped out of the shower, I realized I was going to be late for an appointment. I quickly combed my hair, dressed, jumped into my car, and let the opened windows dry my hair, every so often shaking it out and combing through with my fingers -- I couldn't believe it! by time I reached my appt 35 minutes away, my hair was soft and smooth - even with the wind hitting it - no blow-dryer - no brushing it out - when I returned from the appt - again the windows open blowing my hair all over creation, I brushed my hair and it was so soft and shiny and smooth. That sold me -- if I don't use this product for anything else, it's worth it for how it made my hair look and feel!

UPDATE! - I bought another container of this to use in the kitchen - omg! If you saute shrimp in it, you not only have the aroma of coconut, but the shrimp taste incredible! I also fry or scramble eggs with it - mmmmmm - this stuff is amazing.

This is the 2nd time I've tried this body wash and it has a nice feel to it. While there is a bit of "grittyness" to the way it feels it rinses away clean. When I noticed the gritty feeling I was concerned that they were using micro-scrubbers made out of a polymer (which end up bypassing waste-water treatment plants and end up in the environment) out but based on the label it looks like it's pretty much a natural (albeit very mild) abrasive.
