review

I have been using this since it came out and I love it. It smells like the "old school" herbal essences shampoo that we all remember and loved! That alone had me sold on it. In addition to the smell, it lathers up very good without using half the bottle. A bottle of this lasts me almost two months! (taking showers daily of course) It literally takes a dime size amount to do the job. Even though it's not specifically a moisturizing body wash, it has never dried my skin out.I can smell the faint smell of this on my skin all day. I would highly suggest this to anyone who wants a cheap, great smelling, long lasting body wash.

I'm a big guy. I workout and run every day, and I was looking for something that not only smelled great, but would last a long time. I'm not sure if the advertised smell of roses is on point (haven't sniffed one in years), but it smells really good, nonetheless. I can take a shower in the morning, and then come dinner time I can still smell the fragrance on my arms. Not sure why another reviewer would complain that it doesn't smell like coconuts, because it doesn't advertise anywhere that it will. I like the smell, it lasts all day, and I've received compliments on how good I smell --I am definitely going to permanently switch to this.

This is hands down the best body wash I have ever used. The smell is excellent and lasts a long time. I wish I could get something like a body spray just to add a teeny bit of the awesome fragrance after I get dressed, but it is fine by itself.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?) This does a good job cleaning, it has that slightly gritty feel which some body washes have. I personally like it as it feels like I get a better cleaning with products which have this.

I think the fragrance is what is going to stand out to people on this one, it is definitely unique. Others have described it as a combination of citrus and woodsy, and I think that is about as accurate a description as I could come up with. I really did not care for it when I first opened the bottle, but I have to say that after a few days it really grew on me and I found I like it more now.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

My daughter had been suffering from eyelid eczema for weeks. She is 17 years old and hasn't had an eczema flare since she was about 10 years old. We went to a doctor and to a dermatologist, and they both just readily prescribed steroid-based creams. After reading the horrible side effects, especially when applied on the eyelid, we definitely sought to find a better solution. We tried aquaphor, Vaseline, pure Argan oil (really expensive!), chinese herbal capsules, unrefined shea butter, organic extra virgin coconut oil----nothing worked! Then we found our perfect combination. I knew that her eczema flare was related to her having seasonal allergies, so she started taking Allegra 180 mg. daily and using Aveeno Eczema Therapy moisturizing cream. I read the reviews for this cream and was really impressed. We were so desperate for a healthy solution, that I decided to give it a try. I am sooooo happy that I did. Within 24 hours, I knew that we had stumbled across a winner! Boy, oh boy, what a major difference in her skin. Can you imagine the turmoil in being a 17 year old high school senior with eyelid eczema? She had swollen, red, itchy, crusty, stretched and wrinkled eyelids with undereye dark circles. Not a pretty sight. Within 24 hours-- her red, swollen, wrinkled eyelids returned to normal. She applies the moisturizing cream about 4 times a day and sleeps with a cool mist humidifier at night to keep the air moist. I sure hope this helps someone.

My hair is fine and can be frizzy, especially on humid days, but anti-frizz products leave my hair flat and greasy looking. Using just a small amount, the Pantene BB Creme takes away the frizz and actually adds body. Doesn't make hair feel greasy or coated, even on the second day. Highly recommend.

This is my second review of this product. When I first got the brushes I noted in my previous review that the bristles started falling out with the first use. The company contacted me the next day and offered me a refund or a new set of brushes. I found this very refreshing as most companies don't go out of their way to contact someone who writes a mediocre review. Will buy from them again!

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

Our baby daughter started suffering from either dermatitis or eczema a year ago - just a red bumpy rash - and unscented Dove was recommended by the pediatrician, pediatric dermatologist, and allergist. Unfortunately, they didn't know the manufacturer had changed the product formula. We really wish they had - it would have saved her a year of terrible itching its new formula caused.

A change in formula to Alimentum resulted in dramatic improvement after a milk allergy was diagnosed. However, small raised red patches and intense itching that caused frantic scratching to the point of bleeding soon became major issues; we visited a second dermatologist - atypical eczema was diagnosed.

Treatment until just a few days ago had been warm daily baths and unscented Dove, along with hydrocortisone 1% on spots and Cetaphil cream all over. Children's Zyrtec did not seem to alleviate the itching, although it did help her sleep. A prescription for Calcitrene did not help either. Only a physical barrier - footed PJs with both zippers and snaps, kept her from picking at her skin constantly.

Quite by accident I used unscented Dove two weeks ago. I suddenly found myself having intense itching as well. Could it be that my daughter was allergic to Dove? It did make sense as Dove was used directly on her exposed areas, arms and torso, and she had her most intense and frantic itching episodes after her bath. We discontinued Dove immediately and her intense itching subsided overnight.

What I didn't understand was why I was suddenly was allergic to the new bars. After doing some research it turns out that Dove has discontinued the old Dove unscented bar along with the Dove for sensitive skin (the one with sweet almond oil - itself an allergen) and combined them into one bar, Dove Unscented for Sensitive Skin. In so doing, it's changed its main surfuctant and other ingredients - in other words, the Dove doctors have been recommending for years is no longer the same product.

An online search revealed complaints about itchiness and the new Dove. One website site in particular on the treatment of eczema has an enormous amount of information on detergents, soap and their effects on eczema - especially the change in Dove soap. It no longer recommends it for eczema. Please see the comments section for more information.

Interestingly, itchiness and redness with the new formulation was brought up by a customer in Dove's own website and no solution is given other than Customer Service's phone number.

I've also found some mentions of another Dove ingredient, "Sodium tallowate" - tallow, sometimes derived from cattle - as sometimes causing a reaction in people with milk allergies, causing flare ups in acne and eczema. Whether this too caused an allergic reaction in our daughter, I don't know.

We thought our case was isolated. However, it's possible that the skin problems related to the new Dove may be more widespread. I hope this information helps as this change was done quietly by the manufacturer.

We also found sweet almond oil in the Cetaphil cream she was prescribed - an allergen for anyone with a tree nut allergy. We stopped using it later and the remaining red raised patches she had also diappeared. Other changes that were recommended including a change to Tide Free - it didn't help my daughter but it healed my red, cracked hands, the result of doing laundry 2-3x a day with All Free.

Granted, individual reactions to products vary but the new ingredients in Dove may be causing allergies rather than helping them. None of the three doctors consulted knew of the formula change in Dove nor realized that the "Dove + cetaphil" combo they were recommending were causing the very symptoms (itching and rash) they were trying to treat. It's possible parents may just assume it's ongoing eczema, just like they did. It may not be.

** Update 4/13 **

As noted in my review above the allergen that caused my daughter's eczema was detergent - in this case, the surfuctants in Dove. We then found out that exposure to other sulfates, such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (the main ingredient in Johnson's Baby Bath Head to Toe Baby Wash) are huge triggers for eczema in general - not just my child (why don't doctors know this?!). They may also contribute to scalp eczema - important to know as most shampoos contain SLS.

The solution is simple - avoid anything with detergents and/ or sulfates and switch mostly to soap-based products. These are way milder than what we've been led to believe by advertising. Please see comments section for alternatives to Dove and baby washes with SLS.

** Update 10/14 **

New types of treatment are available for eczema nowadays that have nothing to do with the traditional Dove & Cetaphil Combo, and are one step up from regular hydrocortizone 1% + moisturizer.

My daughter, who still had mild dermatitis / eczema was recently prescribed "Locoid" (4 oz, hydrocortisone butyrate 0.1% by prescription only) which is applied twice a day; for bathtime a gentle no-sulfate soap is used (such as Luxo Creme soap) with warm water. For her hair and scalp, Ciclopirox shampoo 1%, every other day along with Neutrogena T/Sal Shampoo, Scalp Build-up Control, 4.5 fl oz in the days in between, left on for 5 minutes before rinsing well. Her skin cleared up COMPLETELY in a matter of days. Please note Locoid works by blocking the production of inflammatory chemicals prevents the swelling and redness, and preventing the itching and rash formation that can happen as a result of inflammation of skin conditions such as eczema. It should only be used under the care of a doctor and is not recommended for long-term use, especially in children.

It should only be used under the care of a doctor and is not recommended for long-term use, especially in children.

review

I've become a huge fan of Konjac sponges over the last few months. Have you tried one before??? It's like a tiny super soft loofah that gets your face incredibly clean!

This particular one comes in a set of two--one with bamboo charcoal and one without.

I'd only used ones with bamboo charcoal in them so it was nice to use one without for the first time. From my very own experience, I have learned that the bamboo charcoal one works great if you have problematic skin--acne, blemishes, etc.

The sponge appears hard before the first use, but all you have to do is soak it in warm water for a little while and then it becomes really soft and gets slightly bigger. It has a little thread that it can be hung from as well.

Anyway, the best part about konjac sponges is that if you already normally use some sort of soap or cleanser, you don't have to use as much because the sponge makes the lather more ummm lathery. Does that make sense? You get more bubbles and more lather. I've used both of these sponges and they both exfoliate and seriously deeply cleanse my skin and pores, but don't feel the slightest bit harsh on my skin. In fact, when the sponges are wet, they feel really soft and gentle.

Also, it's best to hang these out of the shower so that they dry better. Then, if they harden up again, all you have to do is soak them in warm water again until they soften up once more.

Cleaning them is a breeze. A little bit of boiling water will do the trick! Then just let them dry up and repeat the process of soaking them when ready to be used.

Since I review products regularly and am an avid blogger, I was sent a free set of these Konjac sponges in exchange for an honest review. All of my opinions expressed here are solely my own and in no way influenced.

review

I ordered this to use as a moisturizer on my face as my skin is very sensitive. I was looking for a natural and inexpensive product and this sounded like a good thing to try. I have been very happy with it. I mix a small bit with some jojoba oil...and put it on my face after showering. Best priced I've found on amazon is here; Jojoba Oil for Hair and Skin - 100 Percent Pure Cold Pressed Oil - No Fillers, Dyes or Artificial Ingredients of Any Kind - Made in the USA (3 bottles - 4 oz each)

It feels wonderful and leaves my skin feeling smooth all day. I use to have very dry skin and would break out with the worst case of acne almost on a weekly occurrence. The almond and coconut oil have been amazing. There are ton of other uses for them as well.

I use the coconut oil in the shower sometimes too. It has a wonderfully light coconut smell and leaves my hair conditioned and moisturized without any buildup. It rinses very easily and gives my hair that extra bounce. I will keep looking for more uses for these oils, I could go on forever how great they are but I won't! Instead I'll just say for what I've used them for so far, they've been just great!

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

I have 3c/4a hair. I HATE having to mess with my hair every day. Unfortunately, if I want to keep the length of it it's crucial to moisturize daily. I finally took the time to put all my hair into two strand twists, so protective styling is out of the way and I don't have to worry about styling.

I've been looking for a light daily moisturizer that will not create a lot of buildup on my hair and last all day. I'd read that glycerin is a humectant so instead of being a moisturizing source it's main benefit is drawing moisture from the air and sealing it into your hair. I didn't think this would work for my hair so I'd been avoiding it. On my last order I accidentally left this in my cart :-/.

What a happy accident! Since I had it I decdied to give it a shot. I took a 4 oz spray bottle and put in maybe 3/4 oz of glycerine, then the rest filtered water. A few drops of lavender oil for scent and some Jamaican Black Castor Oil because I wanted a heavy oil to coat and protect my ends and scalp. Oh my goodness....I saw the change on first use. I usually wet my hair in the shower, wrap it in a towel for like 15 minutes after to let the water really absorb into the twists. Whip that towel off and immediately spray all over with this stuff. My scalp is well moisturized but not oily, my hair stays springy and soft all day and there's a noticeable reduction in frizz. NO BUILDUP on my hair. I thought this would be impossible with the castor oil, but I can press and squeeze these twists all I want....the oil residue on my hair is virtually nonexistent.

I LOVE this stuff. My hair is actually absorbing the oil and retaining moisture. I've done plain water, coconut oil, aloe vera juice, SheaMoisture and at least a dozen other store bought moisturizing products.....I've never had this happen with any of these moisturizing supplements. I don't feel like I'm drowning my hair in product now which is awesome. Since I use so little glycerin per mix, this bottle will probably last me months and months. Highly recommend for highly texturized hair care!

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

My 30-something year old skin has developed serious dryness issues, especially during the winter months. The low price of this wash was a great incentive, but ultimately the mid-range rating on Good Guide (dot com) of 5.8 made me want to try this product. These days I'm big on what goes in and ON my body, so the fact that the ingredients in this creamy soap are for the most part safe is extremely important. Also important is the fact that it delivers on its moisturizing promises!

My skin is now more supple and needs much less lotion during the course of the day, and my back (you know the spot I'm talking about) is much less dry and itchy. This also works great as a shaving cream. Yes, as the body wash formula includes Olay facial moisturizer, this smells like goopy "old lady soap." Meaning it smells formulaic, but not necessarily perfume-y like most heavily scented body washes on the market. The lather is so-so: use a few drops on a loofa, then repeat if necessary for more bubbles.

With stacking a coupon + subscribe and save, I was able to try Olay Age Defying body wash for just under two bucks. Definitely worth that cost, as this is a small bottle (in fact, the smaller 13.5 oz size is a good thing as no wash goes to waste AND the bottle easily fits in the shower). Not exactly "age defying," but it cleans and moisturizes wonderfully.

I suffer from a lot of dry skin. I'm shuffling papers both at work and at home constantly. My hands get dry, especially in the winter. I actually suffer from dry skin pretty much all over. The Eucerin cream has helped me eliminate most of, if not all problem areas on my body. I use it on my legs, on my hands. Elbows are another great place that's improved since I started using it. The only place I can't use the eucerin cream is my face.

Because of how thick it is, it's too heavy for my face. I have a lot of lines and wrinkles I would love to use the eucerin cream on but it just doesn't work. I don't like my skin to look glossy and I have to be able to put it on and not worry about it again. The most comparable product I've found that works on my face is retinol cream. Retinol Cream (Vitamin A) - 2 oz. + FREE St. Ives Renewing Collagen Elastin Advanced Body Moisturizer Gift Set- it's great because it absorbs fast and is light unlike the eucerin. On my face I need that speed. The best part is, like the eucerin cream, it's scentless so it doesn't irritate my skin or anything.

If you're more concerned with how your skin feels than how it smells, I recommend giving it a try. As long as it's hypoallergenic, any body cream should work and the retinol is great on the face.
